Your data is yours.

We collect what we need to make Locus work, and nothing more.

Who we are

Locus is operated by Locus App Inc., a Delaware C-Corporation. References to "Locus," "we," "us," or "our" throughout this policy refer to Locus App Inc. This policy applies to locus.fyi and the Locus mobile application.

This Privacy Policy describes the information Locus collects, how that information is used and shared, and the rights and choices available to users. For questions about this policy, contact hello@locus.fyi.

When users create an account, Locus collects information necessary to provide the service: name, email address, date of birth (Locus is restricted to users 18 and over), and general location based on the device's IP address or GPS permissions.

Through ongoing use of the application, Locus collects information provided by users, including profile information, interests, communities joined, events attended, messages sent within the platform, and interactions with other users and businesses.

Locus also automatically collects technical information from the user's device, including device type, operating system, application version, and approximate IP-based location. Locus does not collect biometric identifiers, facial recognition data, or sensitive personal information beyond what users voluntarily provide in their profile.

Information we collect

How your information is used

Locus uses the information collected to operate and improve the service. This includes account creation and management, displaying relevant events and communities based on user-provided location and interests, facilitating communication between users and businesses, processing payments through Stripe Connect, maintaining platform security, and communicating with users about the service.

Locus uses automated systems to match users with relevant events, communities, and other users based on interests, location, and stated preferences. These matching decisions do not produce legal or similarly significant effects on users. Users can adjust their visibility, interests, and communication preferences at any time within the application.

Locus shares information only with third-party service providers necessary to operate the platform. These include Supabase (database infrastructure), Stripe (payment processing), Mapbox (mapping services), Resend (transactional email), Cohere (text embeddings for content matching), and Anthropic and OpenAI (large language model services for community matching). Each service provider receives only the information required to perform its specific function. Locus does not sell personal information, does not share information with advertisers, and does not share information with data brokers.

Your rights and data retention

Users have the right to access the personal information Locus holds about them, correct inaccurate information, delete their account and associated personal information, and receive a copy of their data in a portable format. California residents are entitled to additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act. European Economic Area residents are entitled to additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation.

To exercise any of these rights, users may contact hello@locus.fyi from the email address associated with their account.

Locus retains account information for the duration of the active account. Upon account deletion, personal information is removed from active systems within thirty (30) days, though residual information may remain in encrypted backups for up to ninety (90) additional days before permanent deletion. Financial transaction records are retained for seven (7) years as required by applicable tax and financial regulations.

Locus is restricted to users 18 years of age and older. Locus does not knowingly collect information from minors. If Locus becomes aware that information has been collected from a person under 18, it will be deleted promptly. To report such an incident, contact hello@locus.fyi.
